The city of Stirling is home to a whisky distillery once more. Stirling Distillery, set up by June & Cameron McCann in 2015, saw the first whisky run from its stills in October 2023. And, the spirit just so happens to be the first whisky distilled in Stirling for over 170 years.
The couple have revived the old Stirling distillery, which closed in 1852, making it 171 years since whisky was distilled in the city. June and Cameron began their journey by making gin, the first distillation happening on their 26th anniversary in October 2015. In 2020, the McCann’s launched their own independent bottling brand: Sons of Scotland. And in 2023, the couple have turned their attention to the creation of a new Lowland Scotch whisky from Stirling Distillery.

Lowland whisky is undergoing something of a revitalization, with a number of new whisky distilleries opening their doors in recent years, hoping to reignite the public’s love for delicate, Lowland Scotch whiskies.
The first official single malt release from Stirling Distillery will be available in 2026, created using Stirling’s “Perfect Storm” process, which includes laying the casks down to mature in a traditional dunnage warehouse.
In the meantime, you can purchase Sons of Scotland’s bottles as well as the distillery’s famous gin products on their website.
