Macallan distillery has unveiled the new Distil Your World expression: Macallan Distil Your World Mexico.
Macallan’s Distil Your World Series explores different places from all over the globe through the medium of whisky, bringing together cultures and flavours that are indicative of a particular country, city, or event.
Distil Your World Mexico was created in collaboration with the Roca brothers, the owners of the world-renowned restaurant El Celler de Can Roca located in Girona, Spain. The Roca brothers are long-time Macallan collaborators, having previously worked on other Distil Your World expressions and well as the Macallan Edition 2.
The whisky in Distil Your World Mexico and its packaging is intended to pay homage to Mexico’s Day of the Dead festival. This festival is widely observed in Mexico in late October or early November every year. It is a joyous celebration of life in memory of those who have passed. There are colourful memorials and shrines to the departed covered in marigolds, and pan de muerto buns baked in huge batches. The Day of the Dead is a national holiday in Mexico, and one of the country’s most deeply-held traditions.
The whisky was chosen by Diane Stuart, Macallan Whisky Maker, and the Roca brothers to embody the “the character and spirit of this vibrant tradition.” The pink detailing on the bottle and box represents joy and celebration for the Mexican people and is closely linked to this beloved national holiday.
