Macallan has finally unveiled the new installment of the A Night On Earth series: The Macallan A Night On Earth – The Journey. The bottle will be available from the Macallan Online Boutique from December 2023.
The new release, created in collaboration with the artist Nini Sum, represents the journey taken by millions each year when we reunite with family and friends for New Year celebrations.
The first release in the series, the Macallan A Night On Earth In Scotland, paid homage to the annual Hogmanay celebration, a Scottish tradition that celebrates the last day of the old year on December 31st.

The Collaboration That Created The Macallan A Night On Earth – The Journey
The Macallan A Night On Earth – The Journey, represents New Year celebrations around the globe and pays tribute to the home of Chinese artist, Nini Sum, who designed the packaging for this expression. Nini Sum is a multi-media artist from Nanjing who co-founded the first independent screen printing studio in China. Of her designs for the packaging of the Macallan An Night On Earth – The Joruney, Sum says:
“[t]he steam coming off hot food during the New Year dinner is one of the most vivid ‘home’ feelings I remember. I wanted to re-create that atmosphere, those precious moments of gathering and reunion under a bright moon bringing us all together”.
Much like the Macallan A Night On Earth In Scotland, the packaging is unique and multi-layered. Different colours and images dominate each layer, evoking a journey from a cityscape into the countryside and ending with firework explosions to ring in the New Year.

The Whisky
Again, like the Night On Earth In Scotland, The Journey is an NAS whisky, bottled at 43%.
The tasting notes for this release feature rice and coconut pudding and vanilla on the nose, with citrus fruits, vanilla sponge, and toasted coconut on the palate. The finish is medium and sweet with hints of vanilla.
Pricing
Whilst there is no price given on the official listing, we would expect the price of the Macallan A Night On Earth – The Journey to be much the same as its predecessor. The Macallan A Night On Earth In Scotland is currently listed on the Macallan website for £105.
Macallan A Night On Earth In Scotland Auction Performance
The Macallan A Night On Earth In Scotland had annual releases in 2021 and 2022, both of which have seen a decrease in value at auction.
In late 2021, the bottle was selling for around £200. Today, the average price hovers around £60-£80, a value decrease of approximately 60% in two years.
This trend is something that we have come to expect from modern NAS Macallan. Those who cannot get their hands on a bottle in the original ballot or sale flock to auction to bid on bottles that are being flipped. The price subsequently rises as a result of high demand. Once the bottles have been bought up, the price dips and then plateaus.
As such, given the history of the series, we would expect the Macallan A Night On Earth – The Journey to behave much the same way. However, we will have to wait to see what the auctions bring…
