This week on our YouTube channel, Mark talks about the phenomenon that has been sweeping the whisky industry in recent years: Japanese whisky.
It was not until the early 20th century that whisky distillation began in Japan. Amazingly, this innovation was all down to one man: Masataka Taketsuru.
In this video, Mark takes you through the life and legend of Taketsuru, explaining how he turned the knowledge he gained during Scotch whisky internships into a well-established industry in his own country.
Helping Taketsuru along his way was his Scottish wife, Rita. She helped to fund his venture using her skills in teaching English, and supported her husband in his whisky-distilling dreams.
So, why not watch our new YouTube video and find out how Japanese whisky became world famous?
