Talisker Distillery on the Isle of Skye has been conducting whisky experiments over the last few years, in partnership with the marine conservation charity Parley for the Oceans, including the Wilder Seas and the Forests of the Deep.
The Talisker Glacial Edge 45 Year Old is the final release in the series, and pushes the boundaries of what whisky maturation can do. A portion of the proceeds from the sale will be donated to Parley for the Oceans, to support the vital work they do to maintain our ecosystems.
Talisker Glacial Edge 45 Year Old
The whisky inside the Talisker Glacial Edge was matured in Talisker’s warehouse before being finished in charred American oak casks that had taken quite a journey.
The casks were taken to the ice fields of Canada. The cask ends were removed and then the casks were left exposed to Arctic winds and sub-zero temperatures for four days. The freezing temperatures subsequently caused the wood in the casks to fracture.
Upon their return to Talisker, the casks were filled with what would become Glacial Edge. The fractures in the casks increased the surface area of the cask, meaning that there was more exposed wood for the whisky to interact with during its finishing period.

Why This Auction Gem Is Worth Your Investment
The ice field journey and the subsequent bottling highlight the dramatic changes in the melting rate of the glaciers in the Arctic Circle, and how this will affect the planet going forward. The Stories The Ice Holds, a promotional video by Parley and supported by Talisker, discusses just how essential the work of conservationists is to the sustainability of our planet.
Between the Wilder Seas, the Forests of the Deep, and the Glacial Edge, Talisker and Parley have called attention to the importance of our various ecosystems on our planet, and how vital it is to take care of our environment.
The Talisker Glacial Edge 45 Year Old is out now, with an RRP of £4,500. You can enquire about purchasing the bottle on the Diageo Rare & Exceptional website.
Talisker X Parley
As part of the landmark collaboration, Talisker and Parley vowed to raise awareness and provide education about how we can rewild our oceans, and care for the ecosystems. Kelp forests along the coast of Scotland, including the seas surrounding Talisker, were the initial focal point of the project. The partnership then expanded to a global initiative including a public campaign for the Talisker Whisky Atlantic Challenge, which involved a 3,000-mile rowing race from La Gomera (off the coast of Tenerife), to Antigua in the Caribbean.
Adding to the awareness and education on Talisker’s part were a number of whisky collaborations with Parley including the Talisker 44 Year Old Forests of the Deep. The whisky was bottled in partnership with Parley and inspired by the Cape of Good Hope, home to one of the world’s largest sea kelp forests.
The Talisker Wilder Seas is a no-age-statement Talisker available on Malts.com for £75. With each order you will receive a free Talisker tote bag, and £3 will be donated to Parley for the Oceans to support them on their mission.
