Another elusive malt: the Glenturret 1979 29 Year Old Master of Malt Cask Strength Collection. Not much information is available online about this scarce single malt, with no auction results and no tasting notes available. As such, this one is a complete mystery…
Glenturret distillery is a small, farm-style distillery. Single malts from Glenturret are very rare, making this a unique opportunity for Vin. See his tasting notes below.
“Glenturret 1979 29 YO Master of Malt Cask Strength Collection, 51.5% ABV
The Glenturret 1979, a 29-year-old whisky from the Master of Malt Cask Strength Collection, bottled in 2009, presented a fascinating contrast between nose and palate. Initially, the nose struck me as slightly vinegary and acidic, deviating from typical whisky aromas. This peculiarity piqued my curiosity. Upon tasting, however, the whisky transformed remarkably, revealing an explosion of fruity flavors, dominated by a strong, tangy orange character. The complexity and uniqueness of this whisky were astounding, offering a tasting experience that was both unexpected and delightful. The disparity between the nose and the palate made this Glenturret a truly memorable dram.
Nose: Slightly vinegary, acidic, and a bit off from typical whisky aromas.
Palate: Extremely fruity, with a strong presence of oranges and a tangy quality.
Overall Impression: The palate is significantly different from the nose, offering a complex and unique tasting experience.”
