Mark Littler Ltd are proud to announce the sale of the The Timeless Whisky Collection, the most valuable whisky collection ever to be brought to auction in the USA. The collection comprises 497 individual lots and has a pre-sale estimate of $1.6 million – $2.1 million.
The collection was built over many years by a California-based collector who contacted Mark Littler for advice how to sell their collection. After an initial consultation Mark and the collector invited the Sotheby’s Whisky team to inspect the whisky in his home. The proud owner wishes to remain anonymous but stresses that whisky has been an enduring passion of his for many years, which is evident from the amazing array of bottles that he has amassed. No doubt he is pleased that Sotheby’s, a well-respected global auction house, has taken on the task of finding his collection a new home.
Amongst the numerous high-age statement bottles in the collection is a vertical of the Macallan in Lalique Six Pillars Collection. These incredibly rare whiskies are encased in beautiful Lalique decanters and a bespoke presentation platform by Anselm Fraser Design. This vertical itself boasts a pre-sale estimate of $400,000-$600,000.
The Macallan in Lalique Six Pillars Collection was released over a period of 11 years, between 2005 and 2016. Since the unprecedented growth of the whisky market in 2018, and the continued shift of public perception towards whisky as a luxury asset, these stunning bottles have become highly sought after by whisky and glasswork lovers alike. Boasting age statements between 50 and 65 years old, the collection showcases the craftsmanship of the distillers at Macallan and glassmakers at Lalique, and draws attention to the six principles held by The Macallan that led the brand to become the industry giant it is today.
The Timeless Whisky Collection also features 30 whiskies with an age statement of more than 50 years and 53 magnums, as well as bottles from many well-loved distilleries such as Macallan, Highland Park, Bowmore, Linkwood, Glenlivet, Glen Grant, Tamdhu, Balvenie, and Fettercairn. Bottles such as the Macallan Genesis 72 Year Old in Lalique, the Black Bowmore 50 Year Old The Last Cask, and the Macallan 1938 31 Year Old Fine & Rare are also highlights of the collection. The sale will commence at Sotheby’s New York on September 23rd 2022, with advance bidding available from the 9th of September 2022.
