How To Sell Whisky With Mark Littler

At Mark Littler Ltd we aim to make the process of selling whisky as stress-free as possible, whether that be via private sale, auction, or on our online shop.

Each avenue is different, but all of them aim to get you the best price for your whisky, and make selling whisky an easy experience.

Read on to find out how it works, and which process could be right for you.

Selling via private sale

Our brokerage service is a simple, stress-free way to sell whisky to a private buyer.

  1. You send us some pictures of your whisky and we complete a valuation.
  2. We approach our network of industry and private offers and they make an offer if they are interested in your bottle. You are under no obligation to accept.
  3. Once you are happy, you accept an offer from a buyer.
  4. We issue you with a contract for the agreed price. The contract gives us the right to complete the sale on your behalf.
  5. You send your bottle to us, whether that be via our postage service, or our hand-courier service.
  6. We complete the sale and send you your payment.

For this service, we charge a 10% commission (inc. VAT) if the final sale price of the item. So, if we sell whisky for £1,000, you will net £900 from the sale. This avenue is fast and simple. We will take care of everything for you.

Selling through our shop

The final option is selling your whisky through our one-of-a-kind online shop.

On our shop, we broker the sale of high-value and collectible bottles for our customers. This is a longer-term route, as we ask that a client gives us 6 months to build an advertising campaign around the bottle. However, your bottle will sit amongst rare and expensive whisky and our advertising campaigns aim to draw the eye of whisky collectors everywhere. The process is as follows:

  1. You send us some pictures of your bottle and we complete a valuation.
  2. If we think that your bottle could do well on our shop then we will offer the service to you, with no obligation to accept. We will also come up with a listing price for your bottle.
  3. Once you have accepted we will issue you with a contract that gives us the right to sell your whisky on our online shop on your behalf.
  4. You send your bottle to us, whether that be via our postage service, or our hand-courier service.
  5. Once your bottle arrives at our office we will have it professionally photographed and post it on our shop. We ask that clients gives us 6 months to sell the bottle.
  6. An online buyer purchases your bottle.
  7. We complete the sale and send you your payment

For this service we charge a 12% selling commission. This is a great way of giving your rare and collectible whisky a platform in order to draw the eye of whisky collectors. It is longer process, but the rewards can be great.

    Whisky Valuation Tips

Are you looking to sell your whisky for the highest possible price? It might surprise you to learn that one of the most important actions you can take is to capture high-quality images of your bottles. This ensures we can offer you the best prices and accurately appraise your bottles. Here are our top tips for submitting images of your bottles:

    1. Stand the bottle upright so that we can clearly see the level of the whisky in the bottle.
    2. Do you have the original box? If so, place it next to the bottle in the photo.
    3. Capture the images in a well-lit room, ideally against a neutral background.
