The Port Ellen Annual Releases, bottles 1 to 17, make up one of the most collectible whisky series in the world. Starting in 2001 and ending in 2017, the series consists of 17 annual releases of aged stock from the mothballed Port Ellen distillery.
Port Ellen distillery was mothballed in 1983 and has developed something of a cult status since its closure. Bottles of Port Ellen now sell for very high prices at auction and the annual releases are particularly popular amongst collectors due to their high age-statements. Acquiring the whole collection is seen as something of a challenge for avid whisky collectors.
