Who We Help

Rare whisky is not only owned by professional investors and established collectors.

Some clients come to us with a single bottle or cask and no previous experience of the market. Others are managing substantial collections, inherited holdings or longer-term acquisitions on behalf of a family, trust or institution.

We provide the same clear, independent advice in either case.

Private Clients and Collectors

We work directly with individuals who want to buy a whisky cask, sell a privately owned cask or find the right route to market for rare bottles and collections.

You may have owned a cask for decades and now be considering a sale. You may have inherited whisky and be unsure what it is worth. Or you may simply be looking to acquire something interesting, whether as a long-term holding, a future family gift or a cask intended for private bottling.

There is no requirement to be an established collector or an expert in whisky. We explain the process clearly and handle the practicalities from beginning to end.

Families and Family Offices

Whisky can form part of a wider family holding, but it needs to be approached with care.

We assist families and family offices with the acquisition, ownership and eventual sale of whisky casks. That may involve sourcing a single cask connected to a birth year or family occasion, or establishing a more considered holding across several distilleries, ages and maturation periods.

Our role can sit alongside an existing investment, legal or tax adviser. We focus on the whisky itself: provenance, ownership, pricing, storage, documentation and the routes available when the time comes to sell or bottle.

No two families have the same objectives, so we do not offer standardised portfolios or predetermined packages.

Executors and Estates

Whisky is often discovered as part of an estate with little information beyond a bottle, a cask certificate or an old set of warehouse documents.

We help executors, beneficiaries and families identify what is owned, establish its likely value and decide how it should be handled.

For rare bottles and collections, this may include research, valuation and selecting an appropriate route to market. For casks, we may need to confirm the warehouse position, arrange a regauge or sample and manage the transfer or sale.

Our advice is practical, discreet and designed to remove uncertainty from what can otherwise become a complicated part of the estate.

Professional Advisers and Institutions

We work with solicitors, accountants, trustees, wealth managers, family-office teams and other professional advisers whose clients require specialist whisky knowledge.

This may involve reviewing a proposed cask purchase, valuing an existing holding, confirming ownership documentation, advising on a sale or assisting where an investment has not proved to be what the client expected.

We can work directly with the client or remain in support of the lead adviser. Where necessary, we also provide specialist input in disputes, litigation and other matters involving whisky casks, valuations and market practice.

For institutions or professionally managed holdings, we can assist with sourcing, due diligence, storage arrangements, valuations and long-term disposal planning.

Legal and Due Diligence

Problems with whisky cask ownership frequently become apparent only when an owner attempts to obtain information, transfer the cask or sell it.

We review proposed purchases, ownership documents, valuations and claims made by third-party businesses. We can also examine existing holdings, identify areas of concern and explain what further evidence or professional input may be required.

Where a matter has become contentious, we work alongside solicitors and other advisers and can provide specialist opinion in disputes involving whisky casks, valuations, market practices and ownership.

The purpose is not to create unnecessary complexity. It is to establish what is known, what can be verified and what should happen next.
