A major charity whisky auction featuring several hundred bottles and full casks will run throughout the Spirit of Speyside Whisky Festival this spring. Whisky for Rothes, an online auction raising funds for Rothes Sports Development Group, opens on 29 April and closes on 4 May, with donations from distilleries, businesses and individuals across Speyside and beyond.
The auction catalogue spans well-known favourites, rare collectible releases and sought-after international bottlings. Highlights include a Caperdonich 50 Year Old, which retails at £8,000 per bottle, a Gordon & MacPhail Connoisseurs Choice Glen Grant 1994 30 Year Old (one of just 46 bottles), and a Glenfiddich Grand Yozakura 29 Year Old.

Other notable lots feature a Glen Grant Limited Edition Cask Strength Port Finish, a Glen Scotia 25 Year Old, a Lagavulin Distillery Exclusive 2017, a Ballindalloch Members Only Estate Club Release and The Macallan Archival Series Folio 8. Collectors will also find the increasingly hard-to-find Yamazaki 12 Year Old, vintage expressions such as Knockando 1987, and rare single cask bottlings from England, Wales, Ireland, Japan and Tasmania.
Two full cask lots add exceptional depth to the sale. The first is a first-fill Pedro Ximénez hogshead from Ballindalloch Distillery, offered in partnership with Speyside Cooperage, which will be filled at the distillery in 2026. The winning bidder can visit Ballindalloch and fill the cask themselves, or choose a date to have it filled on their behalf.
Ballindalloch is Scotland’s first single estate distillery, rooted in the Macpherson-Grant family’s Speyside home and known for its fully manual approach to whisky making. The second cask is another first-fill sherry hogshead from Speyside Cooperage, filled with Kilchoman Distillery new make spirit and donated by Caley Casks.
Rothes Sports Development Group said it is "extremely grateful to the Macpherson-Grant family, Caley Casks, Richard Forsyth and Speyside Cooperage for their generosity in supporting this community-led charity auction." All proceeds will be reinvested locally, supporting sports facilities and opportunities for people in Rothes.
The auction runs online from 10:00 on 29 April until 16:00 on 4 May, mirroring the festival week and allowing bidding around the clock. It is being delivered in partnership with Just Whisky Auction, providing a secure online platform.
Organisers said the initiative "reflects the strong connection between Speyside’s whisky heritage and its communities, with every bid helping to support sports projects close to home." More special lots are expected to be added ahead of the festival’s opening day.
