Torabhaig, one of only two single malt distilleries on the Isle of Skye, has launched Taigh, its first permanent core expression designed to define the distillery’s house style. The whisky, which launched globally on 25 March 2026, arrives alongside an original poetry collaboration with Scottish poet Iona Lee.
Pronounced “Tie”, Taigh means house in Scottish Gaelic. The name references both the restored 19th-century steading that houses the distillery’s stills and the wider landscape, community and culture of the Sleat Peninsula.

Taigh is crafted in small batches and matured in first-fill and refill bourbon casks with the addition of Madeira casks. It is bottled at 46% ABV with no chill-filtration or added colour, and carries a recommended retail price of £40 (€46 / $52).
Neil MacLeod Mathieson, Torabhaig whisky maker, said: “Taigh is the heart of Torabhaig. It captures everything we’ve been working towards since we first started distilling — a whisky with elegance, balance and character, where smoke enhances the flavour rather than dominating it. First-fill bourbon barrels have always been the signature of Torabhaig and allow our Smoke with Taste philosophy to shine. But the addition of Madeira in this expression brings a softening roundness to the spirit that we think makes this whisky especially welcoming.”
The official tasting notes from the brand describe seaside embers and flint smoke on the nose, balanced by baked apple pie, maple syrup and gentle raisin richness. The palate is light to medium-bodied, with soft smoke wrapped in vanilla custard, toasted almond and sweet dried fruits. The finish offers toasted oak, lingering vanilla and red fruits with cinnamon and clove spice.
The release marks a new chapter for Torabhaig, building on the success of its limited Legacy Series. The distillery, housed in a steading built from the stones of a neighbouring ruined castle, sits on Skye’s Sleat Peninsula.
To accompany the launch, Torabhaig partnered with Iona Lee on poetry inspired by the distillery’s home. The collaboration explores themes of landscape, language and belonging, with performances, film and editorial content planned over the coming months.
Iona Lee commented: “Taigh is a word that carries warmth, memory and responsibility. Writing about Torabhaig’s home on Sleat has been about listening closely — to the land, the weather, the people and the stories that live there. Poetry, like whisky, takes time, attention and care. It was important to me that these poems reflect the home of Torabhaig honestly, as a living, working whisky distillery shaped by those who know it best and whose influence can be tasted in every dram.”
Taigh is available globally from specialist retailers and the distillery.
