    Whisky Valuation Tips

Are you looking to sell your whisky for the highest possible price? It might surprise you to learn that one of the most important actions you can take is to capture high-quality images of your bottles. This ensures we can offer you the best prices and accurately appraise your bottles. Here are our top tips for submitting images of your bottles:

    1. Stand the bottle upright so that we can clearly see the level of the whisky in the bottle.
    2. Do you have the original box? If so, place it next to the bottle in the photo.
    3. Capture the images in a well-lit room, ideally against a neutral background.
The perfect image - note the bottle is stood upright, against a neutral background with the original box in display

    Do You Remember This Story?

In 2020 we sold a vertical of Macallan 18 year old for Matthew Robson for £44,000!

The story went viral being covered from the BBC, to India, to the USA.

Matthew had been given a bottle every year from his father as a birthday gift and at the time of sale amounted to 28 bottles, all with their original boxes.

    Now We Can Help You

It was a pleasure to work with Matthew, assisting him in obtaining the highest possible amount for his collection. Now, let us use our experience and connections to assist you.

“I was looking to sell my whisky collection of 28 bottles of Macallan 18 year old to fund the purchase of my first house, so I got in touch with Mark.

My father gave me 1 bottle each year for a birthday present so that by the time that I was 18 I would have 18 bottles of 18 year old Macallan. (Yes I’m that guy who was plastered over the media)

Mark did a great job of getting professional photos taken of them and creating a PR buzz around the collection and I even ended up on BBC breakfast news, lad bible, and various radio stations around the world.

At one point my story was the second most viewed story on BBC world wide news app for the whole weekend with over 2 million views.

Needless to say within a day or two of this PR Campaign there was numerous offers.

I would like to thank Mark for all his work and helping me with everything.”

The History Of The Manager’s Dram Whisky

United Distillers (now Diageo) began releasing very limited bottlings of their whisky to their team in the 1980s. Each individual bottling was specifically chosen by a different manager of each of the distilleries owned by United Distillers, they were then made available only to employees of the distilleries. Therefore, the only real chance many collectors had of getting their hands on one of the tasty offerings was if they were then sold by a company employee.

Diageo has continued the trend with the release of Managers’ Drams from all its 27 distilleries. Its single malt distilleries include famous brands such as Lagavulin, Caol Ila, Oban, Talisker, Clynelish, Glen Ord, Cardhu, Gragganmore, Royal Lochnagar, Dalwhinnie, Glenkinchie and Blair Athol.

The bottles are traditional tall bottles, and most have a screw cap. They are 70cl in volume and vary in proof according to the distillery. A 15-year-old bottle of 1990 Caol Ila became famous after French author and noted whisky blogger Serge Valentin rated it very highly; it is currently valued at around £7,000.

As well as the aging information and tasting notes, the bottle labels also feature information about who that Managers’ Drams were selected for and given to.
