Independent Scotch whisky producer Little Brown Dog has launched Aberdeenshire Single Malt, a 12-year-old Highland single malt and the company’s first-ever permanent core expression. The Aberdeenshire-based bottler and micro distillery released Batch One on 28th April 2026, describing it as its most significant release in eight years of business.
The whisky was distilled at Glen Garioch Distillery, located just ten minutes from Little Brown Dog’s headquarters. It was matured in a recipe of 60% first-fill bourbon barrels and 40% Oloroso and PX sherry casks, bottled at 46% ABV with natural colour and no chill filtration.

Batch One has been produced in hand-numbered runs of around 2,000 bottles. That volume is large by the company’s standards but intentionally limited to preserve subtle batch variation.
Andrew Smith, Director and Co-Founder of Little Brown Dog, said: “This is a huge moment for us and genuinely our most important release in eight years of business. We’ve taken our time because we wanted to create something that truly represents Aberdeenshire and everything we care about as whisky makers. It had to be honest, flavour-led and fairly priced—a whisky people would want to open, share and come back to.”
The new core range release follows extensive development shaped by research with UK retailers, distributors across nine international markets and more than 200 consumers. A pre-production preview of 500 bottles sold out almost immediately, generating strong demand from whisky drinkers and collectors.
Unlike the brand’s sought-after single cask releases, Aberdeenshire Single Malt has been designed as a permanent offering. It aims to serve as both a gateway to Little Brown Dog’s wider range and a standalone whisky in its own right.
The launch also introduces a new visual identity for the core range.
Peedie is the name of the real life little brown dog that has influenced the redesign, alongside Bennachie—the iconic hill visible from the company’s distillery and bonded warehouse gates. Fans can search for Peedie within barley fields on the label, alongside a farm gate and an LBD cask.
Each bottle also features a QR code linking to an interactive page detailing the whisky-making process and full cask breakdown. This continues the brand’s commitment to transparency, a principle on which Little Brown Dog was founded in 2018 by Smith and co-founder Chris Reid.
The company has confirmed that Batch Two is already prepared and Batch Three is underway. Little Brown Dog recently welcomed its first employee, Alex, who now plays a key role across production, design and operations as the business enters a new phase of growth.
