Kilchoman has announced the first edition of its Family Collection, a four-whisky release selected from casks in its Islay warehouses. The family-run distillery, based at Rockside Farm on Scotland’s west coast, said the collection includes its first globally available 20-year-old single malt and its oldest general release to date.
The casks came from the annual review of maturing stock carried out by the Wills family. Five members of Kilchoman’s founding family each selected a release for the collection.
The first edition includes whiskies aged 11, 14, 18 and 20 years old. Kilchoman said the range shows how ex-bourbon and ex-sherry casks have influenced its spirit as the distillery reaches older age statements.

Among the releases is a 14-year-old 100% Islay expression. It was distilled in 2011 from barley grown at Kilchoman’s Rockside Farm, malted on site and peated to 20ppm.
The other three whiskies used heavily peated barley sourced from Port Ellen Maltings. Kilchoman said that barley was peated to 50ppm, giving a style closer to the distillery’s traditional peat profile.
“The Kilchoman Family Collection, both this year and in the years to come, showcases some of our most treasured casks,” said Anthony Wills, Kilchoman founder. “We are especially proud to release our first globally available 20 Year Old as part of this edition. Discovering and tasting these exceptional casks in our warehouses remains one of the great joys of what we do.”

Anthony Wills established Kilchoman in 2005, with the aim of returning whisky production to a farm distilling model. The distillery grows barley, malts some of it on site, distils, matures and bottles its 100% Islay range at Rockside Farm.
The distillery describes its 100% Islay range as Islay’s only Single Farm Single Malt Scotch Whisky. Islay, off Scotland’s west coast, is known for heavily peated single malts, although styles vary widely across the island’s distilleries.
