The Isle of Jura distillery has launched the Jura 12 Year Old Oloroso Edition, the first expression in a new range of sherry-finished single malt whiskies. Bottled at 46% ABV with natural colour and non-chill filtration, the whisky is available now in specialist stores and online.
The new release begins its life on the Isle of Jura, where the distillery’s tall copper pot stills produce a light spirit with stone fruit and soft coastal character. The whisky is matured in ex-bourbon American oak barrels before a full finish in a combination of American and European oak Oloroso sherry hogsheads.

Jura’s whisky makers drew inspiration from the Spanish tradition of Sobremesa, the cultural practice of lingering at the table after a meal to enjoy conversation and company. The distillery said the concept aligns with its own ethos of “celebrating those shared moments and creating whiskies that bring people together.”
Official tasting notes from the brand describe layers of prune, caramelised walnut and dried citrus, which combine with the distillery’s signature fruity and balanced house style. The back of each pack features Jura’s distinctive tasting notes device that highlights the release’s three key flavours: prune, walnut and dried citrus .
The packaging reflects the whisky’s Spanish influence. The design incorporates hints of Andalusian mosaic tiles alongside Jura’s distinctive bottle silhouette, while a deep burgundy colour palette evokes the spirit of Spain. Foiling and embossing add a tactile quality to what the distillery describes as a “premium pack” at an accessible price point.
This release forms part of a broader strategy Jura announced last year to make whisky more accessible through clear age statements and straightforward tasting notes. The distillery said the Oloroso Edition is “an exceptional whisky perfectly suited to the Sobremesa moment – best enjoyed after a meal, shared with great conversation.”
A second expression in the range, the Jura 15 Year Old Manzanilla Edition, is set to launch in September. That release will also feature natural colour and non-chill filtration, with a finish in Manzanilla sherry casks. Official tasting notes from the brand describe enticing notes of zesty, aromatic citrus, almond and delicate sea spray. It will be available exclusively in specialist stores and online.
