House of Hazelwood has released Calm Waters 1992 Blended Malt Scotch Whisky, a new expression within its Legacy Collection. The whisky is available now from the brand’s website, priced at £950, with just 297 bottles produced worldwide.
The release was distilled in 1992 and matured for more than three decades. It draws its inspiration from the River Spey, which runs through Scotland’s most celebrated whisky region.
Calm Waters is crafted from a marriage of “weightier” Speyside malts. These were brought together from a selection of first fill and refill sherry butts. The extended maturation in sherry casks has shaped the whisky’s character.

The name reflects a defining duality between apparent tranquillity and hidden power. According to the brand, this mirrors the River Spey itself, whose “calm exterior belies the force beneath.”
Jonathan Gibson, director of House of Hazelwood, spoke about the new expression. “Calm Waters is a perfect reflection of the quiet strength that defines so many of the whiskies within our inventory — a spirit that evolves gently yet reveals remarkable depth over time,” he said.
Gibson added that the whisky honours a long-held philosophy. “It is a testament to both the character of Speyside malts and the enduring philosophy that whisky is ready only when its ready,” he said.
The Legacy Collection celebrates rare parcels from the Gordon family’s extensive inventory. Each whisky is chosen not only for its quality, but for “the story it tells of time, place, and craftsmanship.”

Bottled at 52.1% ABV, Calm Waters will be rolled out to key international markets in the coming months.
According to the official notes from the brand, the nose opens with treacle toffee and liquorice, supported by a herbal framework of fennel and linseed. The palate is full-bodied and mouth-coating, while the finish is “exceptionally long and lingering.”
