Falkirk Distillery has made its cinematic debut as a key filming location in Glenrothan, a new feature film directed by acclaimed Scottish actor Brian Cox. The distillery, located near Polmont in Falkirk, was transformed into the fictional Glen Nairn Distillery during filming in August 2024.
The film, which will receive its UK and Ireland cinema release on 17 April, tells the story of two estranged brothers reunited through family legacy and a shared connection to whisky. Scotland’s landscapes and traditions feature prominently throughout, with Falkirk Distillery playing a central role in bringing the narrative to life.

Ahead of the nationwide release, distillery co-founder Fiona Stewart and HMRC Compliance Manager Lorraine Girder attended an exclusive premiere event at the Ham Yard Hotel in London. The evening included a Q&A session with Cox, alongside cast members and industry guests.
“It was a fantastic evening and a real privilege to be part of the preview in London,” said Fiona Stewart, co-founder of Falkirk Distillery. “Seeing the distillery brought to life on screen, and celebrating alongside the cast and creative team, was a proud moment for us.”
Visitors to the distillery can recognise many of the locations featured in the film, including the warehouses, mash tun and still room. The distillery says guests now have a unique opportunity to step into scenes from the production firsthand.
Cox has described Glenrothan as a “love letter” to Scotland, highlighting the people, places and traditions that define the country. The film sits within a growing trend of screen tourism, which has driven significant visitor interest at filming locations across Scotland in recent years, from Outlander sites in the Highlands to Edinburgh locations featured in popular dramas.
Since opening its doors to the public, Falkirk Distillery has welcomed visitors from across the globe, drawn by its small-batch approach and immersive visitor experience. The distillery is now encouraging filmgoers to experience the story beyond the screen by visiting in person.
With Scottish whisky tourism continuing to attract record numbers — the Scotch Whisky Association reported over two million visits to distilleries across Scotland in 2023 — Falkirk Distillery appears well positioned to benefit from its newfound on-screen profile. The combination of a working distillery and a recognisable film set offers a distinctive draw for both whisky enthusiasts and cinema fans alike.
